Balancing the Crown Chakra
What is the Crown Chakra?
The crown chakra, also known as sahasrara, is the seventh and final of the body’s energy centers. (Check out this post for info on the first chakra and how to balance it.) When it’s balanced, we have inner peace. We are in tune with our intuition and feel connected to life and the Universe. We have a sense of love and light in our being.
This chakra is located within the crown of the head and is represented by the color violet. The energy it brings leads to it being associated with thought. The crown chakra is also linked to the central nervous system and the pineal gland.
How to Tell if Your Crown Chakra is Unbalanced
If you’re not sure if your crown chakra is balanced, try asking yourself these questions:
- Am I depressed?
- Do I worry too much?
- Am I under a lot of stress?
- Do I feel disconnected from my spirituality?
- Do I have a lot of inner turmoil?
- Do I frequently experience headaches or migraines?
- Do I have a hard time sleeping?
- Do I regularly experience fatigue despite sleeping enough?
- Do I feel alone?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, your crown chakra might be unbalanced.
An unbalanced crown chakra has also been associated with certain health conditions, such as neurological disorders, personality disorders, Alzheimer’s, thyroid disorders, brain tumors, and pineal gland disorders.
How do I fix it?
If you’ve read this far and decided that you seem to be in pretty good shape, that’s great! Consider reading the rest of this article anyway for tips on staying in balance.
However, if you’re relating to this article a little too much and think you might have an unbalanced chakra, don’t fret! A few small lifestyle changes are enough to bring you into balance again.
Diet
Unlike the other chakras where you can eat foods matching the color of the energy center, to balance the crown chakra you need to consume light foods. Think lots of water, teas, and broths. Meditation herbs such as lavender, sage, frankincense, and juniper can also be helpful. Detox regiments and fasting can also quickly bring this chakra into balance. However, you should always check with your doctor before making any dietary changes, especially if you’re planning to fast.
Exercise
While I personally enjoy high-intensity forms of exercise, the best form of exercise for balancing chakras is yoga. For the crown chakra specifically, you’ll want to focus on poses that create a sense of surrender. Try incorporating some of the following into your practice:
- Plow
- Seated Forward Fold
- Savasana
- Child
- Wide Legged Forward Fold
- Easy
- Standing Forward Fold
- Mountain
- Downward Facing Dog
- Dolphin
- Pigeon
If you don’t currently have a practice, you might consider taking an online class. I’m also currently working on a series of yoga flows to balance the entire chakra system, so check back soon for the crown chakra flow.
Affirmations
Affirmations are great for healing all sorts of issues whether they are physical, mental, or spiritual. You can use them as a focus during meditation or yoga. Writing them in a gratitude journal also works well. For confidence and passion, try one of these:
- I honor the Divine within me.
- I live in the present moment.
- I am a spiritual being in a human body.
- The Universe has my back.
- I surrender to the loving will of the Universe.
- I release the need to control my life.
- I live in gratitude and love.
- I release doubt and welcome faith.
- I am love. I am light. I am connected to all.
- I am joyful.
- I honor all people and spiritual paths.
